Condensado de Soja review Dairy Free Condensed Milk

Condensed Soya Milk Condensado de Soja

I found this condensed milk substitute in Ms Cupcake in Brixton who have awesome Vegan stuff which luckily for me means Lactose free stuff!

On their shelves this week I found Condensado de Soja lactose free Condensed Milk. It is made from Soya so it is also Dairy free. I grabbed 2 cans and made Banoffee Pie with Salted Caramel (Recipe Coming later). This stuff seems to come from Brazil from a company called Lo Guli and it is also Gluten free. While the can is a little smaller than the usual condensed milk you’ll find in the UK it is very sweet so you’ll be ok using 1 can where it calls for 1 can of condensed milk. Seriously, I think it was the sweetest Salted Caramel I’ve ever had. That’s not to say it was TOO sweet but it packs a punch and a small slice will do you.

The texture of the condensed milk looks a bit dodgy but it was fine in the end and the colour was a lot darker than the “real” stuff. I’m pretty sure you could use this in place of most recipes that call for Condensed Milk and until a company like Lactofree bring out a dairy version using real milk, I think this is the closest you’ll get.

I’m not sure where on earth you buy this online since it is from Brazil, but try Ms Cupcake in Brixton incase they have it on their shelves again and I haven’t bought their entire stock yet 😛 this is the first time I’ve seen this kind of product in any store but I want more! It was £4 a can so compared to the £1-2 of normal stuff this might remain a rare treat.
